Glenelg Yacht Club, South Australia

Regional Moorings

Glenelg Yacht Club has been very busy establishing a series of moorings in the areas where our members travel. Not only are moorings much safer than anchoring, they are essential in circumstances such as gale force winds, very rough seas, or where the seabed simply does not allow for safe anchoring. Our first mooring has been installed at Maslin Beach, and a second to be installed around Christmas 2024. One mooring is in deeper water for keel yachts, and the second is to be installed close in so that power boats may take advantage of the shelter offered by the high cliffs, providing a safe location in most weather. As work progresses, we hope to add more, so check back soon. Club mooring use is free for all members. In addition, the GYC has been working with other yacthing and boating clubs to push the State Government toward installing moorings. A report has been commissioned and received from OROPESA into the viability and various considerations of such a scheme, and can be downloaded here. In addition, you can download the SABFAC (South Australian Boating Facilities Advisory Committee) submission by clicking here.
